Recently, Community based Peace and Conflict Impact Assessment (PCIA) workshop were initiated simultaneously among the 10 Peace and Development sites of the European Union assisted “Build for Peace in Mindanao” project.

The said PCIA which was dubbed as “ Pagsusuring Pangkapayapaan” was a two days assessment among each site facilitated by the Habitat for Humanity Philippines - Project Management Office in partnership with ACT for Peace program. The workshop were participated by the members of barangay development council, lupon tagapagpamayapa, sanguniang kabataan, barangay health workers and the homepartners of habitat specifically the members of the organized savings group of Habitat project management office.

The aim of the said assessment is to ensure the timing, and proper implementation of the project. Likewise, it seeks to know the negative and peace impact of the project and the risks and opportunities present in the duration of the project.

Meanwhile, the said workshop is also the right time to renew to the stakeholders the project rationale and emphasize among others the culture of peace.

The highlight of the workshop was on day 2. The first session was the Risks and Opportunity assessment of the peace and conflict environment towards the European Union and Habitat for Humanity Build for Peace in Mindanao project and other existing project in the area. The participants were asked to identify the possible impacts brought by the various factors in the community towards the peace build initiative. Second session was the formal PCIA, the peace and conflict impact assessment. Unlike the risk assessment, this session asked to identify the peace impact and conflict impact brought by the peace build project to different areas of the community. The session requires a profound mental participation to identify its impacts; peace or conflict. The action planning was the last part of the workshop. Base on the output of the PCIA workshop, contingency and sustainability plans were formulated by the participants.

The PCIA module were adopted from United Nation Multi Donor Programme’s Action for Conflict Transformation and modified to fit the needs of the Habitat peace build communities.
